Quick answer. Legoland Malaysia is in Iskandar Puteri, on the western side of Johor, so most cars from Singapore cross at Tuas via the Second Link. Without heavy traffic, the drive is often around an hour from central Singapore, plus checkpoint time. A private car keeps the family in one vehicle from your door to the park gate.
Legoland Malaysia is one of the easiest overseas day trips from Singapore. It is close enough to do in a day, but far enough that getting there with young children needs some planning.
This guide covers the drive, the checkpoint, the choice between a day trip and an overnight stay, and the practical bits like car seats and return pickups.
How far Legoland is and how long the drive takes
Legoland Malaysia Resort sits in Iskandar Puteri, in the Medini area of south-west Johor. It is close to the Malaysian end of the Second Link.
From central Singapore, the driving time without traffic is often around an hour. From the west of Singapore it can be less. From Changi or the east, allow longer.
The part you cannot predict is the checkpoint. A quiet weekday crossing may take minutes. A Saturday morning during the school holidays can take much longer.
Our rough planning rule for families:
- Weekday, school term: allow about 1.5 hours door to gate.
- Weekend: allow 2 hours or more.
- School holidays and long weekends: allow extra time and leave early.
These are planning figures, not promises. Check live traffic on the day.
Checkpoint choice for Legoland (usually Tuas)
Tuas is usually the better choice. The Second Link lands at Tanjung Kupang, and from there it is a short run along the expressway to Iskandar Puteri.
Going through Woodlands means crossing into JB city first and then driving west across Johor. That is normally longer, unless Tuas is unusually jammed.
Your driver checks both crossings before leaving and picks the clearer one. We explain the difference in more detail in Woodlands or Tuas checkpoint.
At the checkpoint with children
You normally stay in the car. Have every passport, including the children’s, ready in one pouch so you can hand them over quickly. Check passport validity for everyone well before the trip. Malaysia generally expects at least six months of validity on entry.
Foreign visitors may need to submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online before arriving. Singapore citizens have been exempt. Rules change, so check the latest before you travel.
Day trip vs overnight: picking the right booking
Day trip
A day trip works well for families with older children or those visiting just one park. You leave in the morning, spend the day, and come home in the evening.
You have two ways to book it:
- Two transfers: one car drops you in the morning and another collects you at a set time.
- Hourly or full-day charter: the same car and driver stay with you for the day.
Two transfers can cost less. A charter gives you flexibility to leave early if a child is tired, or to stop for a meal on the way back.
Overnight
Many families stay a night or two. The resort has its own hotel, and there are other hotels nearby. An overnight stay lets you split the theme park and the water park over two days.
For this, book a one-way drop on the first day and a separate return pickup on the last day. You do not pay for the car while you are at the park.
Kids, car seats and luggage
Singapore law requires children below 1.35 metres in height to use a suitable child restraint or booster seat in most cars. Check LTA’s latest guidance for the exact rules. Malaysia also has child seat rules for private cars.
We offer child seats on request:
- Booster seat: $15
- Infant seat: $25
Tell us each child’s age and rough height when you book, so we bring the right seats.
Which car to choose
- Toyota Alphard or Vellfire: 6 passengers and 5 large bags. A popular choice for a family of four or five with overnight luggage and child seats.
- Mercedes V-Class: 7 passengers, 5 comfortable, with 5 bags. Good for two families travelling together.
- 13-seater minibus: for grandparents, cousins and a lot of luggage, with room for 13 passengers and 10 bags.
- Toyota Noah or Voxy: fine for a small family on a day trip with little luggage.
Pack a small bag in the cabin with snacks, water and wipes. There is bottled water and a phone charger in our cars.
Private car vs coach vs self-drive
| Option | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Private car with driver | Door to gate, child seats on request, no unloading at the checkpoint, driver handles vehicle permits | Costs more than a coach seat |
| Coach or shuttle bus | Cheaper per person | Fixed times, may require leaving the bus at immigration with children and bags |
| Self-drive | Flexible | You handle permits, Malaysian tolls, navigation and parking, and you are tired on the way home |
For a family with small children, the main gain from a private car is that nobody has to wake a sleeping child to get off at immigration. The driver also handles the cross-border vehicle permits, so you do not need to think about them.
Booking and return pickup times
Legoland’s opening hours vary by season, and the water park may keep different hours. Check the official site for the days you plan to go.
When you book, send us:
- Travel date and your pickup address in Singapore
- Number of adults and children, with children’s ages
- Number of bags
- Whether you want a day charter or a drop and return
- Your preferred return pickup time
For the return, we suggest a pickup time about 30 minutes after you plan to leave the park. Families nearly always take longer to get out than they expect. Late evening returns can also meet traffic back into Singapore, so leave some slack.
We will confirm the exact pickup point at the resort on WhatsApp.
A sample day trip plan
Here is how a relaxed weekday day trip might look. Adjust the times to the park’s opening hours on your date.
- Morning: pickup at home. Children’s passports in one pouch, seats already fitted in the car.
- Tuas Checkpoint: stay in the car, hand over passports, and drive on.
- Arrive at the park: aim to be at the gates around opening time, when queues for rides are shorter.
- Midday: lunch in the park, or a break back at the car if you have a full-day charter.
- Late afternoon: pickup at the agreed point, about 30 minutes after you plan to leave.
- Evening: drive back through Tuas, with a stop for dinner on the way if you wish.
For a full-day charter, the driver waits for you in Johor. For a drop and return, two separate drivers may handle each leg, and the return time is fixed in advance.
Coming home through the checkpoint
Evening traffic back into Singapore can be heavy, especially on Sunday evenings and at the end of school holidays. A return at a slightly off-peak time can save a long wait.
Children often fall asleep on the way home. Because passengers stay in the car at immigration, you usually will not need to wake them. Keep passports within easy reach so you can hand them over quietly.
If you have bought food or souvenirs, check Singapore Customs rules before you cross back. Some items have limits or need declaring.
Book your Legoland trip
Our Singapore to JB transfer service covers Legoland, Puteri Harbour and the rest of Johor, with the same car through the checkpoint. Send your plan through the booking page for a fixed quote before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Which checkpoint is best for Legoland Malaysia?
Tuas is usually best. The Second Link exits at Tanjung Kupang, a short drive from Iskandar Puteri. Your driver checks traffic at both crossings before leaving.
How long is the drive from Singapore to Legoland?
From central Singapore, the drive is often around an hour without heavy traffic, plus checkpoint time. Allow more on weekends and during school holidays.
Can you provide child seats for the Legoland trip?
Yes. Booster seats are $15 and infant seats are $25. Tell us each child’s age and height when you book.
Do we have to get out of the car at immigration?
Usually not. Passengers normally stay in the car and hand passports to the officer. Keep everyone’s passports together so it is quick.
